Abstract

"BorderEye" - development of border monitoring and environmental assessment tools at the University of Sopron

The University of Sopron has won a grant in the Thematic Excellence Programme for the implementation of the project "Development of a fixed-wing drone and evaluation software for border monitoring and environmental assessment  BorderEye ", which aims at the application- oriented development of a complex system capable of detecting environmental elements and events, their changes in time and space (Situational awareness, SA). The selection and testing of airborne equipment and weather-independent sensors mounted on it, capable of monitoring every few hours border sections affected by illegal migration, environmentally sensitive regions affected by disasters or areas affected by landfill, will be the objective of the project actors.
In this study, the usefulness and expected uptake of the planned drone will be assessed in terms of the intended target groups (with a special focus on precision agriculture). During the qualitative interviews, we sought answers to questions such as the current practice of drone use and the possible applications and customer expectations of BorderEye devices in the target group.
