Abstract

What makes a Hungarian destination an experience? Defining the experience factors of domestic destinations using the examples of Szeged and Pécs

Digitalisation has also significantly changed travellers' expectations and attitudes, leading to a shift towards experiences for tourists. From the research side, the focus has shifted to the study of memorable tourism experiences, which are the most valuable for consumers.
The aim of the present study is to shed light on the destination experience factors of Hungarian cities, using the examples of Pécs and Szeged, based on the comments left on TripAdvisor. This will give us an insight into the mindset of consumers travelling to these destinations, which can help destinations to communicate more competitively to their potential travellers. To do this, 60-60 comments from 5 to 5 attractions per city will be analysed, drawing conclusions from 300-300 comments per city.
The novelty of the article lies in the experiential approach to the study of domestic destinations, which uses an internationally recognised model and tries to tailor it to the municipalities studied. In addition to the experiential elements, the research reveals which of the less experiential conditions are the basic conditions for the experience to be realised.
