Abstract

Analysis of user behaviour towards the use of renewable energy

In recent years, the European energy market has undergone major changes as energy prices have risen dramatically. It is therefore extremely important that private households significantly increase their use of renewable energies. The aim of our study is to understand the intention to use renewable energy by applying the theory of planned behaviour (TPB). We used an extended version of the original research model because we believe that concern for the environment plays an important role in the formation of intention to use. The data collection took place online in Hungary in November 2022, where 400 people were interviewed. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used for the analysis. As a result, we can conclude that the subjective norm has the greatest direct influence on the intention to use renewable energy, but that attitudes formed by environmental concerns are also important influencing factors. In campaigns to promote the use of renewable energy, it is worth emphasising the social acceptance of renewable energy and educating the target groups and sensitising them to the energy problem and the challenges associated with climate change.
