Abstract

Adopting the UTAUT model in higher education: The case of a student career planning technology

The current change in the global economy puts a great pressure on universities to adopt a more market-driven approach and new technologies in their operation. Accepting students’ customer role can increase the value created by universities at all levels. To increase customer value, technology can support the institutions, but without tailoring the features of the technology to its users’ needs, the implementation cannot be successful. This research focuses on the differences in technology adoption among students based on their faith and the effort put into obtaining their degree. A survey was conducted with 311 (n = 311) students studying business and management at a bachelor’s level. The results show that there is a connection between being in a cluster based on the faith and effort put into obtaining a degree and four dimensions of the UTAUT model adopted to the examined student career planning technology tailored specifically based on prior qualitative research. The results can help decision makers to test such a technology before introduction and they can also contribute to further research in the field of marketing and management in higher education.
