Abstract

Attitude Patterns in Sustainable Consumption: An Empirical Exploration Based on a Large-Scale Survey

Research into sustainable consumer behavior is increasingly focusing on the attitudes and value orientations that underlie environmentally friendly decisions. The aim of this study is to map and systematize basic attitude patterns related to sustainability as a basis for a later, more detailed analysis. The research is based on quantitative questionnaire data (n = 2224) that examined respondents across the dimensions of ecological commitment, social-human factors, and personal conviction. During data processing, exploratory statistical procedures and cluster analysis were used to identify different attitude structures. Preliminary results indicate four distinct consumer attitude profiles, which show varying degrees of environmental sensitivity, social orientation, and personal commitment. The study highlights that attitudes related to social norms and community values play a decisive role in shaping sustainable decisions, whereas individualized approaches alone are less stabilé. The results of the analysis provide a basis for further, deeper investigation of the motivational background of sustainable consumption and contribute to the preparation of subsequent, more targeted modeling and explanatory research.
