Abstract

Understanding Medication Adherence Through the Lens of Consumer Timework

In this study, medication adherence among chronically ill patients is examined through the lens of consumer timework. Survey data from 500 multimorbid patients were analyzed using PLS-SEM to assess how psychological medication beliefs (necessity and concerns) and financial burden are associated with medication non-adherence. Time since diagnosis is a moderator of these relationships: financial burden is found to have a stronger effect in earlier stages, while the impact of necessity beliefs weakens over time. Medication adherence is conceptualized as a temporally dynamic process, highlighting the importance of time-sensitive, patient-tailored interventions.
