Abstract
Identifying Alumni Segments based on their Engagement and Involvement level
The study of student engagement to higher education institutions is not new. Numerous studies have already reported findings on involvement, engagement and relationship of HEIs to students and alumni, as well as the components of institutional image and attractiveness, which have led institutional leaders to increasingly seek to shape this relationship, seeking its benefits not only in enrolment success but also in other areas of institutional performance. Building and strengthening alumni communities has become an important task for institutions facing increasingly difficult financial situations, not only to obtain potential financial support, but also because proud alumni members can create value in many other ways for example through voluntary activities and promoting the institution's reputation. To this end, it is worth knowing what groups can be identified based on their degree of attachment to the institution and what activities they can be involved in by the institutions. In our research, we were interested in what activities are typical for members of different alumni groups, how these groups differ from each other, and what levels of commitment and involvement are typical for them. Using cluster analysis, we identified and characterised four segments of alumni based on their behaviour and attachment to the institution. We also formulated brief recommendations for institutions to help them make use of the results.
